Up and Down

Raised beds

What is put up shall stay up, and what is put down shall stay down!

Yep! So the raised beds are finished and are looking gorgeous, consisting of 46 railway Canadian oak slippers www.dorsettimber.com . These are allegedly the best after the British oak, which allegedly is mainly at the bottom of the English Channel, sunk by the French and the Spanish. Other magic components are: 130x  20omm screws, unknown random quantities of hard core, plus 6+ tonnes of topsoil (hand-sifted).

The paving of the steps and the terrace has been nearly complete by now (had it not been for my dodgy back this morning or the annoying Sunday afternoon rain drizzle). The patch by the woodshed is the only bit left to finish off, which will make the total paving tile quantity used in excess of 160pcs, all carefully lifted off the old patio, cleaned of mortar and recycled for he purpose.

All in all, we reckon we saved so far about 90 cubic meters of landfill, as well as a few grand on materials, which does not take into consideration the cost of our labour, of course! 🙂

Some plants were purchased this morning at the local nursery. These did not find their way out of the pots yet unfortunately and shall wait for a dry evening sometime in the coming week.

So far, very please with the results, albeit, the pergola was not erected, the shed was not shelved and the garage is still full of stuff. And I am not even going to mention the wood-shredding at the allotment!

On another positive note – our lean-to conservatory was snatched-up last week but a keen DYI up-cycler, who insisted paying a deposit of £100 on viewing and will be coming back next week to do the dismantling.

And of course, not forgetting the biggest news of the week – we have got our planning permission now! Which means that the works on the extension up and outward shall commence very soon! I hence know where this morning’s woolly head came from – the champers always let themselves known the morning after 🙂
