Shred it!

The pile of branches was 5 times bigger when we started! It disappeared into nothing by the time we turned it into chips!

If you have it and it’s shred-able – shred it!

The unshredded-so-far leftovers of our hawthorn + trimmings from our curly hazel + somewhat crippled holly tree went into a shredder tonight to make some “bark chippings” for our allotment.

The useful by-product might have somewhat crippled our lovely friend’s, Bill Leadbetter, shredder, yet provided us with some valuable weed-suppressing material for our allotment’s footpaths, as well as saved us (yet again!) a few quid at the local garden centre, not forgetting the valuable landfill space ! 🙂

More on the news: the tatties are up and the onions and garlic are doing brilliantly! Strawberries and apple trees are in somewhat belated bloom. Raspberries, blackcurrants and gooseberries are at various stages of flowering. Plum and pears have decided not to flower this year, which is just as well, since we only planted them last winter.

Next on the cards is to make sure that it’s warm enough to plant out our brassicas, legumes, courgettes, squashes / pumpkins, tomatoes, peppers, etc

We may sound like a sad lot to some, but at least we will know what went into our food when we are eating the lot this summer / autumn / winter.
